Emidio Pepe Dinner with Chiara De Iulis Pepe
Friday, March 4, 2016 | 6:30PM
$295 (Includes wine pairing and hospitality)
Limited to 16 guests
Emidio Pepe is one of Italy’s most unique, inventive and finest natural winemakers. Chiara De Iulis Pepe, his granddaughter, will be here to share a selection of special wines from their family’s estate in Abruzzo. Her grandfather reshaped Italian winemaking by creating exciting, dynamic and long-lived wines. All the while, Emidio has done so without the benefit of well-esteemed varieties, like Nebbiolo or Sangiovese. Instead, he has worked exclusively with the indigenous varietals of the region, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Trebbiano d’Abruzzo and Pecorino, almost singlehandedly bringing due respect to these under-appreciated grapes.
The Pepe estate is well-known for their deep cellar of estate wines. It includes over 350,000 bottles dating back to 1964, Emidio’s inaugural vintage. Chiara will be sure to show something older from this cellar, as well as more current releases that reflect her aunt and mother’s direction of the estate. Along with her ambition and charming personality, Chiara is a true ambassador of the wine world and has an incredible understanding of her family’s winery and estate.
We look forward to her sharing her knowledge, stories from the vineyard and of course some fabulous wines. Paired alongside these wines will be a traditional Abruzzo menu in the classic Vetri Cucina fashion. We hope you will be able to join us and experience these treasures of Italian winemaking!
