Katie Parla is a Rome-based food journalist, educator and author. A New Jersey native, Katie now spends her time documenting Roman food culture for international publications and hosting food and beverage events aimed at illuminating lesser known aspects of Italian dining and drinking.
Join Chef Brad Spence and journalist Katie Parla for a celebration of Rome's famous Ferragosto meal. Every year on August 15th, Roman friends and families gather for a celebration of Summer and to usher in the vacation season. Although the day has religious origins--August 15th celebrates the Assumption of the Virgin Mary--today, it is essentially a secular holiday.
Romans dine on prosciutto and fruit, chicken-based dishes, and fresh fruit desserts. We will recreate this very Roman fare and pair it with classic Italian Ferragosto-inspired drinks.
