La Spinetta Wine Dinner with Giorgio Rivetti

Wednesday, January 13, 2016  |  6:30PM
$240 (including wine pairing and hospitality)
Limited to 17 guests

We are extremely pleased to welcome Giorgio Rivetti, owner and winemaker of La Spinetta, one of Italy’s most acclaimed wineries, along with importer Fred Magnotta and sommelier Bobby Domenick. After a reception to welcome all guests, we invite you to an intimate dinner in our private dining room where Giorgio will be taking you through a five-course pairing to match Vetri’s seasonal dishes. Some of the wine highlights of the evening include Contratto, Blanc de Blanc 2008, La Spinetta, Barbera d’Alba 2003 “Gallina” Magnum, La Spinetta, Sangiovese “Il Nero di Casanova” 2006 Magnum, “Grand Cru” La Spinetta Barbaresco 2006 “Starderi”, and La Spinetta, Passito Oro 2006.

At 16, Giorgio began studying viticulture and enology at the Scuola Enologica di Alba — one of Italy’s oldest wine schools — and soon thereafter apprenticed in both Burgundy and Bordeaux. When he returned to his family’s home in Piedmont, he began working alongside his father, Giuseppe, who had launched La Spinetta in 1977 and quickly gained a reputation for his Moscato d’Asti.

Giorgio’s magic touch with Moscato, Barbera, Nebbiolo and, more recently, Sangiovese, Colorino, Vermentino and Sangiovese Rose has taken the wine world by storm. He produces approachable yet age-worthy wines that command the attention of wine critics and consumers alike, year-in and year-out; their lushness, concentration, aromatics and length are unrivaled. Giorgio's speedy ascent, from Moscato producer in the 1970's to venerated Barbaresco and Barolo vigneron today, is studded with success.

The genius of La Spinetta encompasses a vast array of great wines, all boasting an inimitably approachable and voluptuous style. From Moscato to Nebbiolo to Sangiovese, whatever Giorgio touches turns to gold. His pioneering single-vineyard Barberas and Barbera/Nebbiolo blend Pin are considered to be the best of the Langhe. His Barbarescos and Barolo are at the very top of their category.

In fact La Spinetta's wines are among Italy's most celebrated, as the winery has attained the coveted Gambero Rosso "Tre-Bicchieri" award for more than 30 of their wines throughout their relatively short career.

We are excited to have this opportunity to host Giorgio here at Vetri and look forward to seeing you soon!
